Whitehaven is a neighborhood in South Memphis, Tennessee that’s known for being home to Graceland, the former residence of Elvis Presley. Whitehaven is a vibrant community with a mix of residential, recreational, and employment options as well as home to Southland Mall, Memphis’s first enclosed mall.
Informally known as Blackhaven, Whitehaven is a predominantly African-American middle-class community and was first organized in the late 19th century as a neighborhood for upper-class families with a current population of about 50,000. The community takes its name from a Colonel Francis White, who was an early settler and major property owner. White was influential in getting a rail line to run through what was first called White’s Station, later Whitehaven.
